Abstract: The striking mid-century modern home in Wayne, Illinois, almost designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is being sold for $1.25 million.

The home appears to have found a buyer after just one month, with the proceeds of the sale generously donated to charity.

The seller has owned the property since 1971, but this is the first time it has been publicly listed.

In 1957, a surgeon named Chester Trowbridge hired Wright to design the 4,153-square-foot home, known as "The Envelope.

The owner and the famed architect disagreed on the design, so Wright terminated his business relationship with Trowbridge shortly after the project began - after making preliminary drawings believed to have been incorporated into the plans, Zuccaro said.

It's unclear exactly who designed the home after Wright withdrew from the project.

Zuccaro said the home's triangular grid, wide overhangs, lime stone floors and lack of square rooms are in keeping with Wright's design style.

Since its construction, the property has changed hands three times.

In keeping with Wright's influences, the 4,153-square-foot house is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass windows that welcome an abundance of natural light. Interior brick walls, as well as unusual cypress walls and ceilings, are visible throughout the house.

There are three fireplaces and radiant heated floors to enhance efficiency.

The original layout of this four-bedroom home called for a music room, where the Trowbridge's are said to have held small concerts.

Today, this open floor plan has a lower-ceilinged front door, which shows a living room and wet bar with very high ceilings.

The nearby spacious dining room has a fireplace, while the modern kitchen boasts wood paneling. There is an additional dining area and sunroom which would be ideal for entertaining.

In 1977, the sellers hired an architect to do the addition, and they added on to the great room and main suite.

There is another room, set up like a dining room, with a copper hood that we believe was once a screened-in porch.

The new master suite, with three closets and a walk-in shower, is the only bedroom facing the backyard. The nearby original master bedroom came with a fireplace.

The home also features built-in shelving with lighting and brick pillars.

The 6.2-acre property has a multi-level stone patio, pool, attached three-car carport, and a barn with a workshop upstairs.

Most people looking at homes are looking for unique, special and modern properties like this Uzone-style home are hard to find as most have been remodeled over the years. This house has some nice updates, but they are minimal and respectful of the aesthetics.

The home is owned by a local psychiatrist who helped establish the psychiatric care unit at Central DuPage Hospital and is on the board of the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Related Disorders. Proceeds from the sale of the house will be donated to ANAD.
